Reddies Baseball Completes Sweep of SNU

Henderson State pitchers allowed just one unearned run and gave up only five hits as the Reddies took a double-header from Southern Nazarene winning 7-1 and 5-0, Saturday in Arkadelphia. Ark. 

With the three game sweep of SNU, the Reddies improved to 20-12 overall and 14-7 in the Great American Conference moving Henderson into a tie for second-place in the league standings. 

In the opener, Zac Zdanowicz went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Carlos Rodriguez belted out two doubles to lead the Reddies.

Henderson scored single runs in the first and second innings getting a RBI single from Dustin Hudson and a sacrifice fly from Matt Evans to score Michael Schell who reached on a single to center field.

The Reddies added three runs in the fourth-inning as Tadarius Hawkins reached on a triple to right-center field and scored on a Zdanowicz single. Zdanowicz later scored on a bunt single by Taylor Coleman with Coleman scoring the fifth run on a wild pitch.

Meanwhile, Reddie pitcher Austin Coble was cruising through the SNU lineup striking out six batters and allowing three hits through eight-innings. SNU’s lone run came on a passed ball in the sixth-inning.

Henderson scored runs in the first three innings of the series finale, while Crimson Storm hitters continued to struggle with the Reddie pitchers.

Zdanowicz and Hawkins led things off with back to back singles in the first-inning and later scored on a fielder’s choice and a stolen base.

Zdanowicz, who was 6-for-11 in the series, doubled in the second-inning to score Jordan Trosclair who singled earlier. 

The Reddies would plate two more runs in the third-inning with the help of a double by Rodriguez and a Ben Wainwright sacrifice fly. 

Starting pitcher Dustin Hudson pitched four innings, surrendering one hit and striking out three batters to improve to 5-2 on the season.

Reliever Jordan Wright pitched the final three innings, striking out six batters to pick up his 10th save of the year.

Henderson’s pitching staff limited Southern Nazarene to nine hits in the three games with the Crimson Storm posting a .113 average. The staff combined for a 0.36 ERA while striking out 22 batters.

The Reddies will travel to Fort Smith, Ark. on Tuesday for a double-header with Arkansas-Fort Smith beginning at 2 p.m.
