Reddies Claim Baseball Series with 5-2 Win Over NWOSU

Solid pitching and timely hitting helped Henderson State beat Northwestern Oklahoma State 5-2 and win the three-game series, Saturday in Alva, Okla.

Austin Coble pitched 8 1/3 innings, striking out seven batters while scattering nine hits to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Jordan Wright finished the game striking out both batters he faced to collect his seventh save of the season to set a Henderson State record.

Northwestern Oklahoma State, 16-13 overall and 5-10 in the Great American Conference, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but that was all the runs the Rangers could muster the remainder of the game.

The Reddies got on the board in the fourth-inning as Dustin Hudson singled to right field to score Michael Schell who walked to lead off the inning.

Henderson State, 16-12 overall and 11-7 in league play, took the lead in the sixth inning. With one-out, Michael Corso singled and then scored on a RBI double by Carlos Rodriguez. Matt Evans then gave the Reddies the lead with a single to center field that plated Rodriguez.

The Reddies provided Coble with a couple of insurance runs in the eighth-inning as Jeff Beck and Schell led off the frame with back-to-back singles. With one out, Rodriguez was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases. Evans then hit a two run single to score Schell and Beck for the final runs of the game.

For the series, Zac Zdanowicz led the Reddies offensively going 6-for-11 with a double, home run, three runs scored and three RBI. Corso was 5-for-12, while Evans was 4-for-11 with four RBI.

The Reddies will next travel to Batesville to take on Lyon College in a double-header on Tuesday with the first pitch set for Noon.
