This morning, while scanning the internet, we came across a Wisconsin gem of “reporting” from anonymous sources and speculation that would leave a reader believing new Arkansas Razorbacks head football coach, Bret Bielema, is so lousy at offense, that his former offensive coordinator of one season with Badgers, Matt Canada, had to engage in a power struggle to do his job.
Now, keep in mind, the named sources, Canada himself, was quoted contradicting the unnamed sources.
“Bret and I talked every week,” Canada said. “There wasn’t any clearing of the air.”
In fact, Canada, the new OC at North Carolina State, the same school that recently hired former Hog Strength and Conditioning coach, Jason Veltkamp, continued with his praise of Bielema: “I appreciate him hiring me to come work at Wisconsin,” Canada said. “No issues, no problems. Everything was good.”
We don’t know all of the ins and outs of the politics of game-day play calling at Wisconsin this year, or exactly how VeltKamp wound up with a good job at NC State working along side a former Bielema assistant, but if we were betting sports, we’d put our money on Canada’s claim that he had no issues, no problems and everything was good with his former boss. That would be our bet.
We’d also point to Russell Wilson, who was coached by Bielema and not by Canada, as just one of the many examples of Bielema seeming to understand offense, players and the skills they possess.
And we will add, that Coach Bielema still seems to have respect for and respect of some of his former team’s fans, via a Twitter post from him this morning from his holiday travels.
