Junior Simona Horsikyan has been named this week’s female Tennis Player of the Week by the Southland Conference. The award is the first of Horsikyan’s UCA career.

The Bears have won consecutive matches for the first time since February 11-25 of last season, when they rolled off four wins in a row. Horsikyan has played a large part in the back-to-back wins, going 2-0 in no.1 singles and teaming with Sasha Ruocco to go 2-0 in no. 2 doubles.

On Saturday against Murray State, Horsikyan took down Ashley Canty by a score of 6-4, 6-3 after she and Ruocco had taken down Megan Blue and Erin Patton 8-5 in doubles play.

Sunday’s match against North Alabama was nearly identical, with Horsikyan and Ruocco prevailing 8-3 in doubles before Horsikyan defeated Mackenzie Bishop 6-4, 6-3.

Horsikyan and the Bears look to extend their winning streak on Saturday, playing host to conference foe Nicholls State at the Central Arkansas Tennis Courts at 9:00 am.
