Smith and Ensley of Henderson State Basketball Earn All-GAC Honors

Henderson State’s Destiny Smith and Andrew Ensley earned second-team All-Great American Conference honors announced Wednesday at the pre-tournament awards dinner in Bartlesville, Okla.

Smith earned a spot on the All-GAC women’s team after averaging 14.4 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Smith is one of only two players in the GAC averaging a double-double this season.

The senior from Mt. Pleasant, Texas earned GAC Player of the Week honors on March 4 after averaging 20.5 points and 13 rebounds in games against OBU and Southern Arkansas.

Smith ranks second in the GAC in field goal percentage (.578) while shooting 71 percent from the foul line (115-of-161). Smith recorded 10 double-doubles this season.

Ensley lands a spot on the All-GAC men’s team for the second year. The senior from Dallas, Texas leads the Reddies and ranks sixth in the GAC in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game.

For the year, Ensley averages 7.4 boards per game and is shooting 49 percent from the field.

Ensley has scored in double-figures in 24 of 26 games and has totaled 20-points or more in eight games.

In 53 career-games, Ensley has scored 853 points, averaging 16.1 points per contest.

Smith and the Lady Reddies will begin the Great American Conference Tournament on Thursday against Southwestern Oklahoma with tipoff set for 2:30 in Bartlesville, Okla. 

Ensley and the Reddies will face Arkansas Tech in the first round on Friday with tipoff at Bruin Coliseum set for 2:30 p.m.
