Walnut Ridge, Ark. – Cheyenne Childers has had a remarkable two weeks playing for the Williams Baptist College Lady Eagles basketball team.  On Monday, the American Midwest Conference announced the senior forward as the conference’s player of the week.

The Cave City, Ark., native scored 27 points against the second ranked team in the NAIA, Freed–Hardeman University, before scoring a career high 34 points against Mid–Continent University.  Childers also collected a total of 15 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals during the week.

More impressively, Childers shot a stunning 77 percent from the field, including 57 percent from 3–point range.  The senior was also a perfect 13–for–13 from the free throw line.

“Cheyenne has had two weeks of exceptional play.  Her shooting percentage is off the charts,” said head coach Carol Halford.

Over the past six contests, Childers has eclipsed 1,000 career points and averaged 24.7 points per game, while shooting 66 percent from the floor and 59 percent from beyond the arc.  Her average has risen from 11.8 to 16.5.

The Lady Eagles won the American Midwest Conference matchup against  Mid–Continent University by a score of 101-67 on Saturday afternoon.  The contest was held in WBC’s Southerland-Mabee Center.

Williams scored the fist nine points of the contest to build an early 9-0 lead.  The Lady Eagles showed competency on the execution of the shots, shooting 57 percent from the field, including 50 percent on three-point attempts.  Meagan Goza was a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc in the first half, while Cheyenne Childers chipped in with 16 first-half points.

Childers continued her strong play with a 34-point, 10-rebound game.  Goza contributed 18 points and chipped in on the glass with 12 rebounds, while Rachel Dicus scored eight points.  All three Lady Eagles reached their career highs in points scored.

“Those are two real solid double-doubles,” said Head Coach Carol Halford.  “Cheyenne has been playing great basketball. She looks like she has high energy and gives effort and I like to see that.  Meagan is a good shooter, and she can also play on back. She is pretty versatile. Rachel has given us great minutes off the bench and has worked hard each day to improve.”

Williams outrebounded MCU 54-to-32, including 31-to-14 on the defensive glass.

“Coach Halford talked to us before the game to work on hitting the board offensively and defensively.  I hope we go up from here. Every game we try to improve, and that’s what I will keep doing,” said Childers.

The Lady Eagles improve their record to 6-5 in conference play and 10-7 overall. Williams will hit the court again on January 30, when they play Park University.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 in Parkville, Mo.
