Aloha, Spring in Arkansas

Every year, usually in early March, Arkansas is blessed with a weekend of sunny skies, warm temperatures and a whisper from Mother Nature.

“Come outside,” she says with every slight breeze. “Spring is here.”

It’s on this weekend that our thoughts turn to hiking, biking, fishing and fun on the water in Arkansas. Oh, and as a reminder, don’t forget to “spring” your clocks forward an hour tonight before you go to bed, so you can get one more hour of daylight starting this weekend.

How fitting that the same week we capture that first SPRING IN ARKANSAS IS HERE Saturday, is the same week that Aloha Pontoons, an Arkansas-based boat maker, celebrates 53 years in business?

We could be wrong, but it must have been easy, easy, easy, to sell boats as a brand new company 53 years ago if the skies were sunny, the temperatures were in low- 70’s and the siren song of Mother Nature was in every ear.

A couple of weeks ago, Ashley Blackstone (@ashblackstone on Twitter) and our friends at THV 11, the CBS affiliate in Little Rock, Ark., featured Aloha Pontoons and its owner Tom Cox.

The year was 1960. Cox’s dad and great uncle decided to start a family business. They called it Aloha Pontoons…

“I believe it helps you mentally to be on the water,” says Cox.

It’s Arkansas’ landscape and serenity that keeps him grounded. Cox says, “It’s just a great place to be from.”

We agree, Tom. Now, let’s all get out enjoy this weather, this season and this great place to be from – Arkansas.
