Ludick and Nicasio of Red Wolves Track Team Claim Conference Honor

JONESBORO, Ark. (1/23/13) – The Arkansas State University Indoor Track and Field team continues to receive Sun Belt Conference (SBC) recognition as two of its student-athletes achieved weekly accolades per this Wednesday’s (Jan. 23) release by the league office.

Senior Kim Ludick, who competes in multi-events, earned Sun Belt Conference Women’s Indoor Track Field Athlete of the Week laurels. She placed second in the shot put event with a indoor season best toss of 46-06.75 (14.19m) at last Saturday’s (1/19) Eastern Illinois John Craft Invitational. Her throw marked the second-best performance in ASU indoor annals, second to Krystal White’s 48-9 effort set in 1996. Ludick claimed ninth in the weight throw with a 42-03.25 (12.88m) effort.

The Red Wolves also were bestowed with the SBC’s Men’s Indoor Track Field Athlete of the Week as junior thrower Chris Nicasio was the recipient. Nicasio placed first in the weight throw at the Eastern Illinois John Craft Invitational last Saturday (1/19) with a personal career-best toss of 64-00.50 (19.52m). Nicasio’s throw represented the second- best ever on ASU’s indoor records chart. In the meet, Nicasio also earned a fifth-place showing in the shot put event with a throw of 47-01.75 (14.37m).

ASU, under second-year head coach Jim Patchell, now has four of its track student-athletes claim weekly conference honors for the 2012-13 indoor season to date. A pair of Red Wolves’ sprinters, junior Sharika Nelvis and junior Joey Meyer were recently chosen by the SBC as Women’s and Men’s Indoor Track Athletes of the Week (Jan. 9).

Arkansas State will host its annual ASU Invitational this Friday (Jan. 25) in Jonesboro, Ark. The meet, which will be held at the Convocation Center on the A-State campus, starts at 10 a.m. (CT) with field events while the running events are scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. (CT).
