Trio of Event Titles Lead UALR Track and Field at Bison Invitational

SEARCY, Ark. – Senior Taron Dunn captured the triple jump with a leap of 44’11” (13.69m) while junior Rebekah Grissom took the discus title with a throw of 131’11.75” (40.22m) to pace UALR track and field at the Harding Bison Invitational Saturday (April 6). 

Grissom finished the day by winning the javelin with a mark of 113’1.75″ (34.48m).

Grissom and Dunn also took a pair of runner-up finishes. Dunn leapt 20’10” (6.35m) in the long jump while Grissom took second in the shot put with a throw of 41’10.75” (12.77m). 

Also with a pair of top-five finishes were freshmen Melissa Chunn and Victor Shores. Chun placed third in the discus with a season-best throw of 111’5” (33.95m) while taking fourth in the shot put (37’4”, 11.38m). Shores placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 42’4.75” (12.92m).

Shores placed fifth with a leap of 19’2” (5.84m) in the long jump.

In the track events on the men’s side, freshman Basil Rogers finished fifth in the 200m with a season-best time of 21.90. In the 400m, Casey Lane took third with a time of 49.47. Freshman Alex Ebmeyer and senior Nathan Carr took fifth and sixth with times of 49.78 and 50.01, respectively.

Freshman John Vodacek took fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:14.48.

In the women’s track events, freshman Baylee Daves placed fourth in the 400m with a season-best time of 59.76. Also finishing fourth was freshman Therese Moberg in the 800m with a time of 2:34.98. 

Senior Mackenzie Bloom and sophomore Tori Copeland took third and fifth in the 1500m with times of 4:59.92 and 5:03.97, respectively.

UALR track and field returns to action next Saturday (April 13) at the Ole Miss Invitational.
