MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – UALR Senior Nicklaus Benton (70-73-143) is in fourth place and sits just three shots off the lead after the second round at the Sun Belt Championship at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s the Shoals on Tuesday. Benton shot a one-over 73 in the second round to place him at one-under par for the tournament.
Georgia State was one of three schools tied for third place after the opening round but moved to the top of the leaderboard with a team score of 286 (-2) on Tuesday, placing them at 581 (+5) overall. North Texas, another school tied for third after the opening round, is just a shot off the pace at 582 (+6). South Alabama, yesterday’s leader, fell to third place at 584 (+8). Middle Tennessee (585, +9) sits fourth, while UALR (587, +11) slid three spots to fifth but is still just six shots off the pace.
Benton’s two-round score leaves him just three strokes back of leader Rodolfo Cazaubon (72-68-140) from North Texas. Cazaubon shot a four-under par 68 in round two on Tuesday to leave him at four-under for the tournament. Middle Tennessee’s Lucas Armstrong (69-72-141) sits just a shot off the pace and second overall at three-under par heading into Wednesday’s final round. South Alabama’s Lane Hulse (68-74-142) opened with a four-under 68 on Monday but shot a two-over 74 on Tuesday to place him third at two-under. UALR sophomore Colby Benton (73-71-144) is currently tied for fifth with Georgia State’s Grant Cagle (74-70-144) at even-par through two rounds.
Sophomore Alfred Kerstis (75-73-148) shot a one-over 73 on Tuesday to move up three spots into a tie for 16th at four-over par for the tournament. Sophomore Johann Voss (75-77-152) is tied for 32nd at eight-over par through two rounds, while junior Nick Zimmerman (76-78-154) is 10-over for the tournament.
