UALR Swimming and Diving Concludes SBC Championships with Trio of Records

ROCKWALL, Texas – Three more records fell on Saturday (March 2), upping the number to nine for the week, as UALR took fifth with 246.5 points at the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. 

Western Kentucky captured the title with 853 points to out-distance North Texas (828 points).

Leading the way was freshman Valeriya Teplova, upping the school standard in the 100 free twice on the day. Teplova qualified for the fastest heat with a time of 51.76. In the nightcap, she finished seventh with a new school record time of 51.55. Junior Kara Raney touched the wall in 52.57 to finish 13th in the 100 free. 

Junior Holly Myers broke the record in the 200 backstroke during the prelims on Saturday morning. She qualified for the finals with a time of 2:04.79. In the finals, she finished 10th, touching the wall in 2:06.37. Senior Amy Tran finished her UALR career with a 16th-place finish with a time of 2:14.31.

Finally, senior Amber Kelly closed out her career by breaking her own record in the 200 fly. She swam 2:04.83 in the prelims before finishing 14th with a time of 2:06.93 in the finals. Freshman Natalie Swindle swam the 200 fly in 2:07.86 to finish 16th.

Other top finishers include a 14th-place finish from sophomore Meghan Petersen in the 200 breastroke with a time of 2:32.25. Classmate Alexis Stone finished 15th in the mile swim, clocking in at 18:48.20. 

Closing out the day was a fifth-place finish in the 400 free relay. The quartet of Raney, Teplova, Kelly and Holly Myers finished with a season-best time of 3:29.26.

While the UALR swimming season has concluded, freshman diver Megan Scott will continue to the Zone Regional Diving Meet in the 1-meter event March 11-13 in Houston, Texas.
