UALR Swimming Takes Fifth at Tampa Relays

TAMPA, Fla. – Competing in its second relay-only meet of the year, the UALR swimming team placed fifth at the 2013 Tampa Relay Invitational. Rice University captured the women’s title while the host University of Tampa Spartans took the men’s title.

The highest finish for UALR came in the 200 yard free relay. The team of junior Kara Raney, freshman Valeriya Teplova and seniors Rebecca McEachern and Amber Kelly finished with a time of 1:41.75. Raney teamed up with senior Amy Tran and junior Holly Myers to finish fourth in the 3×100 backstroke relay with a time of 3:10.26. Teplova, Kelly, Holly Myers and junior Hope Myers also placed fourth in the 800 free relay with a time of 8:10.31.

In the 400 IM relay, Kelly and Tran teamed up with juniors Alexis Stone and Meghan Petersen to take sixth with a time of 4:32.30. Raney, McEachern, Tran and Holly Myers also took sixth in the 400 yard free relay with a time of 3:48.20.

UALR swimming and diving returns to action in its final home meet of the season when it hosts Hendrix and Rhodes on Friday, Jan. 18. The meet at the Donaghey Center Natatorium is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
