Pine Bluff, AR – The UAPB Lady Lions played host to the Mavs of the University of Nebraska- Omaha in basketball action at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The Lady Lions jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead with 11:54 to go in the first half. UAPB’s lead never dipped below five points. Lakendra Marsh sank a buzzer beating 45- footer just as time expired to give the Lady Lions a nine point lead, 35-26, going into the half.
“The experience of their guards proved to be the difference in the ballgame down the stretch”, said first year head coach Nate Kilbert.
The Mavs came out in the second half and quickly closed in on the Lady Lions and took their first lead of the ball game at 11:05 mark in the second half, 45-44. They would hold that lead until the 3:00 mark when UAPB’s Cassidy Wright knocked down a three pointer to give the Lady Lions a one point edge, 61-60.
Nebraska- Omaha would rally back to hold off the Lady Lions 67-63. This is the Lady Lions first loss at home this season.
Paige Frauendorfer, of UNO, led all scorers in the ballgame with 18 points.
Lakendra Marsh lead the charge for the Lady Lions with 15 points, while Chigozianyi Okwumbua added 14 points with seven rebounds and four steals.
Next on the schedule for the Lady Lions is a home match-up against the University of New Orleans Friday, December 21st. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
