The Central Arkansas tennis team traveled to Huntsville, Texas on Sunday to battle Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State. The Kats defeated the Bears 7-0 on the day, winning every match.
In no. 1 doubles play, Nadia Dubyanskaya and Tanya Postnikova defeated Simona Horsikyan and Allison Murphy 8-2. Sheridan Currie and Natalie Petaia took down Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco by a score of 8-2, ending the pair’s five match winning streak. In the no. 3 doubles match, Maddie Mortimore and Kayla Stevenson defeated Kristina Horsikyan and Anna Buyukyan 8-0.
Singles play started off with Postnikova defeating Simona Horsikyan 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. The no. 2 match saw Currie defeat Murphy 6-2, 6-3. In the no. 3 Imke Jagau scored a 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory over Kristina Horsikyan. In the no. 4 match, Petaia took down Buck 6-2, 6-2. The no. 5 match saw Ruocco lose her five match winning streak as she fell 6-2, 6-1 to Mortimore. The final match of the saw Buyukyan fall to Dubyanskaya by a score of 6-2, 7-5.
The Bears (11-13, 2-6 SLC) will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, traveling to Texarkana, Texas to make up a match with Stephen F. Austin that had previously been rained out.
