Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The 14th ranked Lady Eagles from Williams Baptist College won six games this past week, while dropping zero. They beat five different teams on the week and four of the games were run ruled.
The week started off when Williams hosted Crowley’s Ridge College in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. It was a bitterly cold afternoon at the Lady Eagles softball field in Walnut Ridge. The cold did not affect WBC’s bats, however, as they won 18-0 in five innings. Karisa Hendrix pitched a complete game, only allowing one base runner, a single in the fourth. She struck out seven batters in the contest. Offensively, Shelby Anderson and Brittany Merritt each hit a home run in the game. It was Merritt’s first college home run.
The second game of the doubleheader would be more WBC softball, as they won 8-0 in five innings. Shelby Anderson pitched a no-hitter. She only allowed one base runner via an error. Whitney Woodard hit her first college home run with an opposite field blast.
The Lady Eagles traveled to Conway, Ark., for four games at the CBC Tournament during the weekend.
They opened the tournament against Indian Technical College and beat them 12-2 in five innings, for their third straight run rule game. Hendrix picked up the win in the contest. WBC combined for 11 hits in the game, with Kristen Gipson hitting one over the fence for her first home run as a Lady Eagle.
Next, Williams would play NCAA Division I team University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Once again, WBC would run rule a team in five innings, this time winning 8-0. All eight runs came in the fourth inning for WBC.
Game three of the tournament pitted WBC against Louisiana State University-Alexandria. Anderson hit two home runs in the contest, helping the Lady Eagles win 3-0. She now has six total home runs on the season. Hendrix held LSUA’s bats at bay, only allowing one hit in the game while striking out nine batters. Her season record has improved to 6-1 from the circle.
The Lady Eagles would win the final game of the week 6-1 over William Jewell College. The team would score four runs in the first, which would be plenty for Anderson and Hendrix. Anderson started the game and earned the win with five innings pitched, allowing one run. Hendrix pitched the final two frames without allowing a base runner. Anderson has yet to walk a batter from the circle this season.
The nine game win streak has improved the 14th ranked team’s record to 11-1 on the season. They will travel back to Conway, Ark., on Tuesday, March 5, to play a double header against 6th ranked Central Baptist College. The two will meet up again on Saturday, March 9, when CBC returns the trip to Walnut Ridge.
