Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The majority of minds in the Williams Baptist College student body have entered into summer mode, focusing on summer jobs, vacations and mission trips.  However, that is not the case for the Lady Eagles softball squad.  The sixth ranked team in the NAIA is still alive and hunting for the program’s first NAIA National Championship.

They will continue their quest in the NAIA National Championship bracket on Friday, May 24, at 6:30 p.m.  Williams comes in as the sixth seed in the 10-team double elimination final bracket.  The team’s first game will be played against Lee University, the tourney’s third seed.   The championship round will be played in Columbus, Ga.

“We have worked for this not only this year, but the years leading up to this.  When you are at this point any team can win it.  It is about execution and delivering in the clutch and handling the pressure,” said Williams Baptist College softball head coach Eric Newell.

WBC won its pod in opening round play last week in Oklahoma, compiling record of 4-1 to earn the trip to Columbus.  The Lady Eagles have a season record of 44-7, and they were the American Midwest Conference regular season champions.  Williams has been ranked in the top 15 for the entire season.
