WinChill Factor: This Ain’t Your Grandpa’s Razorbacks

Waaaaay back in my youth, even before I became a polyester fabric through processes I have yet to find on Google, I heard this song.  For me, it was a Siren song of sorts.  It planted the seeds of Razorbacks Spirit deep into what I assume became my heart (but with me…it’s literally hard to tell).  So, in honor of the Advocare Texas Bowl, here is that old school classic that made me want to become a Razorback:

Oh, those lyrics.  Oh, that saxophone in a rockin’ rock-a-billy song.  Oh, the “Uh-ruh, that’s why you look that way!” refrain.

Brilliance.

I must warn you, though, that’s it’s quite the ear worm.  It will settle in and you’ll be humming it for the next 24 hours.  Then again, it could be worse (and here, I’ll refer you to any song by Jefferson Starship and/or simply Starship).

The thing is, Razorbacks and Longhorns is, for many Arkansans, rich in history and tradition.  For the longest time, it was OUR rivalry game.  It wasn’t for Texas.  But for the Hogs, it was the one game of the year that always mattered.

It still does to Arkansans.  But my fellow WinChillers know that this team is not necessarily like the teams of the past.  The conference – top to bottom – is tougher.  We are faster, stronger, smarter and hungrier than we were in our Southwest Conference days.  The SEC has demanded excellence and we are well on the way to meeting that challenge.

Texas is still Texas and will be a formidable opponent.  But there is no longer fear of being able to compete on the Razorbacks side of the field.  We’re no longer outmanned.

Plus, we just look better.  I mean, I like Charlie Strong and all but…a mock turtleneck?

Come’on, Man!

This week’s WinChill Factor is History.  There’s a lot of it when you look at Arkansas vs. Texas over the years.  It’s time to make some of our own and mark 2014 as the season of the turnaround.

Beef…it truly is what’s for dinner.

And as always, Fear the Sleeves.

Coach Bielema’s Windbreaker made its physical presence known on August 31, 2013.  It is chock full of Razorback spirit, has an unhealthy hatred of sweater vests and fears nothing (other than a hot iron on the “Cotton/Linen” setting).  As game days approach, the Windbreaker can be found interacting with the Razorback faithful on Twitter (@BielWindbreaker).
