Riverfest: The Sport of It All

We know. We know. Riverfest is billed as “Arkansas’ premier music and arts festival,” and that it is. BUT, this is a festival – no – and EVENT in all CAPS when the sporting life of Arkansas is on full display – a time when fun, food, music parties and SPORT intersect.

Riverfest begins Friday, May 23 at 6 p.m. running through Sunday, May 25 in downtown Little Rock.

The following musical headliners will perform at the main stages:

Bud Light Stage: Friday – Easton Corbin, Lee Brice; Saturday – Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Buckcherry, Three Days Grace; Sunday – Jamey Johnson, Hank Williams Jr.

Coors Light/Arkansas Federal Credit Union Stage: Friday – Chicago; Saturday – Salt-N-Pepa, CeeLo Green; Sunday – The Wallflowers, The Fray.

The festival also features music and activities in Julius Breckling Riverfront Park, Clinton Center Park, Heifer International Campus and the vibrant River Market District in downtown Little Rock.

But wait! There’s more, football fans: Several former Razorbacks will also be in attendance at other tents. The Verizon karaoke booth will host Oakland Raider Darren McFadden from 6-7 p.m. on Saturday and Tennessee Titan Tyler Wilson and New England Patriot D.J. Williams from 6-7 p.m. on Sunday.

Additionally, the Super Retriever Series will be at Riverfest again this year. The series is located in the FREE FAMILY / KID ZONE at Heifer International.

The Super Retriever Series consists of many events, Super Fly and Super V are 2 of the favorites. It is comparable to track and field, only for dogs. Super Fly is the distance or long jump into the pool and Super V (Vertical) is the high jump competition also into a pool. Super Fly and Super V competitions are fun to watch as dogs test their skills on the dock. This year we are introducing Mini Fly for all our smaller dogs! If your dog likes to swim and retrieve be sure to bring him down and give it a try. All amateurs are welcome to enter the Amateur Super Fly Event. Organizers of the series will hold a Pro and Amateur ( local dogs) event all weekend with a special guest also performing Disc dog and tricks – Jonathan Offi and his World Famous Canine Athletes. Saturday morning the third annual “Ruff on the River Pooch Parade. The costume theme this year is Cirque De Pup.  Prizes for best costume.  And oh yeah, a Weenie Dog Race after the parade.

Our good friend Kevin Hamilton and his dog Oscar are expected to compete in the Dock Dog event.

Don’t miss the First Security Bank Fireworks Show on Sunday, May 25 at 9:00 p.m. prior to the headline entertainment. Music will be simulcast throughout Riverfront Park and broadcast on The Point 94.1. You don’t want to miss Arkansas’ most spectacular show! It really is something to see.
