Pine Bluff, AR- It’s been a hectic travel schedule for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions basketball team, playing the first 11 games of the season on the road, but Golden Lions fans were anxious to see just what type of team would show up at H. O. Clemmons Arena Wednesday night.

The Golden Lions played host to Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University to open up the 2012-2013 SWAC conference season. And open up the season is just what the Golden Lions did.

UAPB started on a 19-0 run in the first half that was just too much for the Delta Devils to bounce back from. The 19 point lead would be the Golden Lions largest lead of the night, as they would have control of the lead for the entire ballgame.

Valley would pull within three at the 10:54 mark of the second half, and that would be the closest the Delta Devils would get. The Golden Lions turned up the defense and pulled away for a 79-64 victory.

Terrell Kennedy led all scorers with a quiet 25 points, on nine of fourteen shooting. Kennedy was also six-for-six from the free throw line. Lazabian Jackson knocked down 16 points and had seven rebounds. Marcel Mosley also chipped in 10 points and was eight-for-eight from the line.

Davon Usher scored 19 points for Valley and Matt Smith added 17 in the Delta Devils efforts.

Next on tap for the Golden Lions is a Sunday bill, January 6th, against the Hornets of Alabama State. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM at the H.O. Clemmons Arena. This Community Appreciation Day, all Golden Lions fans are asked to come out and show your support.
