What is a Labral Tear?

The socket of the hip joint is lined with cartilage, called labrum, that cushions the joint and allows it to move with ease. A labral tear in the hip can occur for many reasons, such as injury, the wear and tear of repetitive movements or degeneration caused by osteoarthritis.

Labral Tear

A labral tear is often difficult to detect as it sometimes causes no symptoms to arise, and doesn’t require treatment. However, the injury may cause pain for some, or a “catching” sensation in the hip joint.

Hip arthroscopy can be used to relieve suffering from labral tears. Arthroscopic hip surgery is often performed as an outpatient surgery. You can schedule your procedure to arrive early in the morning, and after a short, closely monitored recovery period, you may return to your home and start on your path to recovery.
