Stuttgart Defeats Ozark, Wins 7th State Football Championship

Senior Waymon Johnson moves the ball for the Stuttgart Ricebirds who defeated the Ozark Hillbillies 28-7 to take the 4A State Championship title Saturday night at War Memorial Stadium. The win gave the Ricebirds their 7th State title.

Stuttgart Coach Billy Elmore started the season with his team at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, playing the first game of high school football for the 2012 in the First Security Bank Kickoff Classic against Central Arkansas Christian, and ended the season playing the last game of the year.

Stuttgart’s senior quarterback, Dontrell Brown, had 219 rushing yards in the game, with a total of 277 yards. He was named the game’s most valuable player. The Ricebirds had 409 total yards of offense for the game.

Ozark’s Josef Asbeck scored the Hillbillies only points of the game, with a 14-yard run.

Attendance for last night’s game was the largest of the six finals games played this year at War Memorial Stadium, with more than 8,200. More than 39,000 attended all games this year over the past two weekends.
