UAPB Lady Lions Take Care of Lady Hornets

Pine Bluff, AR- Tonight in basketball action, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lion’s basketball team defeated the Alabama State Lady Hornets to the tune of 68-63, at the H.O. Clemmons Arena, for Community Appreciation Night.

Chigozianyi Okwumbua was tonight’s leading scorer with 14 points on two of three shooting and she was also 10 for 10 from the free throw stripe.

The Lady Lions battled back and forth with the Lady Hornets for the lead up to the 6:16 minute mark of the first half, when Miracle Pitts hit a lay-up to tie the ballgame at 21. The Lady Lions never looked back pushing their lead to as much as 14 points in the second half. Lakendra Marsh added 13 points, while Christina Lasane and Cassidy Wright chipped in nine points apiece respectively.

Amaria Brown led the way for the Lady Hornets with 13 points.

“This was a good win for our ballclub. It showed that we are able to make adjusts from game to game”, said head coach Nate Kilbert.

Up next for the Lady Lions is a visit from the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, January, 8th. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM. This is also Military and First Responders Night; any current member of the Armed Forces, any Veterans, and First Responder Units will get free admission by showing a Military or First Responder’s ID or by wearing your respective uniform.
