A Hog by Any Other Name… Is This The New Razorback Logo?

Logos come. Logos go. Such is the case with the Razorback logo. In fact, not only do team logos undergo tweaks and evolutions over time, team colors do, too.

New Razorback LogoIs this the new “front facing” Razorback logo that has been teased by the University of Arkansas recently? From a tweet by ‏@LoganKersey But for real – this appeared on http://shop.arkansasrazorbacks.com  today. Someone apparently released it early.

This isn’t the only change coming to the Hog shops.

Earlier this year, the University of Arkansas announced a slight change in the red used for the team. Here’s how 40/29’s Ben Wagner reported it last weekend.

Your Razorback shirt might be outdated in the coming months. The University of Arkansas announced it will change the official “Razorback red” on all licensed products.

The change will only affect licensed apparel you can buy. All of the athletic team’s uniforms are already the correct new color.

“The shade, the tone of the cardinal is what’s been slightly tweaked for our licensed product,” said Candace Stimmel, director of marketing and licensing.

The official cardinal red used to be Pantone 200, a color match designating a brighter red similar to the University of Georgia’s color red.

Now, licensed products will be Pantone 201 – a darker shade similar to the University of Alabama’s red.

The university says it’s an effort to keep all products the same color as current Arkansas uniforms.

The move will not cost the university any money since it is not changing the jerseys. Though manufacturers will have to sell off all of their old, brighter red by the end of August.

The university said it spent nearly nine months deciding on the color change. It affects more than 550 companies who make licensed Arkansas products.
