Heart of Texas Bowl Cancelled; Live United Postponed

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University Athletic Department announced today that the Heart of Texas Bowl this Saturday, December 7, has been canceled due to inclement weather and the potential of hazardous travel conditions.

With the incoming front that is forecasted to produce frozen precipitation, including up to an inch of ice accumulation state-wide, Ouachita Baptist Athletic Director David Sharp feels the decision is in the best interest of players, families and fans.

“With the severe winter weather forecasted in Arkansas and Texas over the next two days, we feel that the safety of the Ouachita community is our number one priority,” said Sharp. “We are disappointed that our players will not get the chance to play against a quality opponent like Tarleton State and we are certainly pleased for the invitation from the Heart of Texas bowl committee. However, we have to think in the best interest of our student-athletes.”

Head Coach Todd Knight echoed the programs concern for safety of the student-athletes. “We support the decision,” said Coach Knight, “and hold the safety of our players, coaches, trainers and staff as our highest priority. We hate that our seniors and players will miss out on this opportunity after the weeks of preparation and hard work they’ve put in.”

The winter weather has also forced the postponement of the inaugural Live United Bowl in Texarkana, Ark. on the same day featuring GAC member Harding Bisons, as well as state high school playoff games in Arkansas and Texas.
