Lingmerth Loses in Playoff

LA QUINTA, Calif. –Former University of Arkansas men’s golfer David Lingmerth finished tied for second at the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation on Sunday evening, after getting eliminated in a three-person playoff at PGA West’s Palmer Course. 

The tournament is the second of Lingmerth’s career after he earned his PGA tour card last season on the Web.com tour. Lingmerth finished the four-day event with a score of263, 25-under par, after shooting an astounding 10-under on Sunday. Following his stunning final round 62, the former Razorback had to wait for nearly an hour before joining Charles Howell III and Brian Gay in a sudden death playoff. 

In the playoff, which began on the 18th hole, Lingmerth put his tee shot in the middle of the fairway but on a downslope. With the long drive, he watched Howell place his second shot in the middle of the green and Gay place his in the rough just off the green which put pressure in the tour rookie to make a shot. Lingmerth’s second shot found water left of the green leading to what would have been a bogey, but he was eliminated after Howell III and Gay each sank birdies.

Lingmerth had rounds of 68, 64, 69 and 62 to get to his final score of 263. In his final 18 holes, the Sweden native sank 10 birdie putts and did not take a single stroke above par on any hole. He entered the day in tie for 15th and was able to pass 13 players to force the playoff.

Another former Razorback, Tag Ridings, also played in the event and finished tied for 56th overall at 15-under par. Ridings is making a return to the PGA tour this year after earning his tour card through Q school.
