JONESBORO, Ark. (1/17/13) – The 2012-13 Arkansas State University men’s basketball team’s practice Wednesday (Jan. 16) was unlike any other as the Red Wolves welcomed special guests from the local Ridgefield Christian School.

The event was a special party which was offered at a silent auction during the Ridgefield Christian School’s Fall Festival held this past October 2012. The Fall Festival is sponsored by PACE (Parents Advancing Christian Education).

The kids who participated in the post-practice party enjoyed a game of basketball with some of the A-State student-athletes, pizza and cookies, a tour of the ASU men’s basketball locker room, and each individual received an autographed poster signed by the Red Wolves’ players.

“Our boys love playing basketball with the ASU players,” said Marci Stracener, the chair for the Hospitality Committee. “They are a lot of fun and always very nice to our boys. The boys also loved getting the autographed posters too.”

A few other parties up for Silent Auction bids were a trip to Florida, an ASU baseball party, Catfish and Khakis, and a Progressive dinner. The auction also featured several decorative baskets and a basketball autographed by ASU head coach John Brady.

“This marks our fifth year we’ve participated in this event with Ridgefield Christian School,” said Brodrick Johnson, ASU Director of Men’s Basketball Operations. “We have enjoyed this event every year and we view this as an opportunity to give back. This is something we would like to continue doing and are already looking forward to this next type of event.

“Everybody in our program is involved and it’s special for us to have an opportunity such as this one to interact with children who admire who we are and what we’re doing at Arkansas State University. We want to say thank-you to the parents for their involvement and interest in ASU basketball,” added Johnson.
