UAM Basketball Teams Back in Action in Oklahoma

MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello basketball teams will open the 2013 portion of their schedules this weekend with a trip to Oklahoma to face East Central University and Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Great American Conference action.

The UAM Boll Weevils and UAM Cotton Blossoms make their first stop in Ada, Okla. to face off against East Central on Thursday, January 3. The women’s game will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Cotton Blossoms are 2-7 overall this season and 0-4 in GAC games, while the ECU women are 8-2 overall and 3-1 in GAC games. UAM’s last game resulted in a 79-41 loss on the road to Northeastern State in non-conference action on December 18, while ECU is riding a five-game winning streak with its last contest resulting in an 83-80 non-conference victory over St. Mary’s on December 19. UAM is led by freshman Donlicia James, who is averaging 11.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

The Boll Weevils ended 2012 with non-conference wins over Delta State (53-43) and Southwest Baptist (79-71), giving the team a 6-4 overall record heading into this weekend’s games against ECU and SOSU. The Weevils are 1-3 in GAC games, led by the league’s leading scorer Kori Forge, who is averaging 22.3 points per game. ECU’s men are 4-6 overall this year and 1-3 in the GAC, and most recently posted an 80-67 non-conference victory over Newman on December 17.

UAM will travel to Durant, Okla. on January 5 to face off against Southeastern Oklahoma State. Saturday’s women’s game will start at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s game at approximately 4 p.m. SOSU’s women are 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the GAC this season, most recently capturing a 77-73 non-conference win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on the road on December 31. SOSU’s men are 7-3 overall this season and 3-1 in league games, most recently posting a 67-64 conference win over Harding at home on December 8.
