UCA Dominates SLC Fall Academic Honor Roll

CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas placed a league-high 112 student-athletes on the 2012 Southland Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday.

UCA, which topped second-place McNeese (85), had 18 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the fall semester. Leading the Bears to their second consecutive NCAA Division I football playoff berth was graduate student Seth Allison. Allison, who is working on his master’s in business administration with a 3.0 GPA, helped the Southland champion Bears to one of the league’s top scoring defenses while earning all-conference honors at the linebacker position 

In all, 695 student-athletes from around the conference were honored. The 2012 fall honor roll boasts four student-athletes of the year, five players of the year and a total of 132 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during the fall semester. The honor roll includes student-athletes who took part in men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s soccer and volleyball.

UCA’s Jessica Hays, a graduate student on the volleyball team, helped the Sugar Bears to its first NCAA tournament appearance after winning the conference tournament. Hays, who posted a 4.0 while pursuing her master’s in family and consumer science/nutrition, is a two-time first-team all-conference selection for the Sugar Bears and was the SLC Tournament Most Valuable Player while leading the Sugar Bears to the championship.

UCA had 17 honorees in men’s cross country, 20 in women’s cross country, 20 in women’s soccer, nine in volleyball and 46 in football. 

Hays, Betsy Pickhardt and Kyle Hartman had 4.0 GPAs for the volleyball team. In women’s soccer, Sarah Correll, Cristin Curl, Hailey Haynes and Vanessa Randall logged 4.0s, while Jacob Luckett, Albert Maeder, Jordan Pfaff and Kenneth Stice were at 4.0 in men’s cross country.

In women’s cross country, 4.0s were recorded by Jordan Chadwick, Megan Effinger, Courtney Efurd, Abbie Linna, April Martin and Cassandra Rosas. For the football Bears, Joe Carmical had a perfect 4.0.
