Hendrix Warriors Mount Comeback, Top Gents in OT

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Hendrix College Warriors men’s basketball team escaped the Gold Dome with an 80-77 overtime victory over Centenary College of Louisiana on Wednesday evening. The Warriors (4-6) trailed by nine with just over four minutes to play in the second half, but chipped away at the Gents’ (5-6) lead before junior forward Colton Primm hit a lay-up with two seconds left to send the game to the extra period.

Tied 74-74 with 1:45 left in overtime, the Hendrix Warriors made four free throws down the stretch and had a basket by sophomore forward Luke Vance, while the Gents only managed one bucket down the stretch.

Hendrix Warriors shot a season-best 50.8 percent (31-of-61). They were also 5-of-12 from three-point range and 13-of-21 at the line. Centenary shot 49 percent (29-of-59) from the field, 5-of-17 from outside and 14-of-27 at the free throw line.

Senior guard Jaren Riley paced Hendrix with 22 points and tied his career-high with seven rebounds. The Claremore, Okla. native also dished out four assists and came up with two steals. Vance recorded career-bests with 17 points and 13 rebounds for his first double-double. Primm finished with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go with six boards and two blocks. Freshman guard Drew Nikolovski came off the bench to score 10 points and senior center Dayton Sheridanregistered eight points and four rebounds.

Jonathan Blount led the Gents with 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting. Donovan Williams added nine points, six rebounds and three assists.

Hendrix will be off until Dec. 28 when they take on Hiram College at the D3Hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.
