JONESBORO, Ark. (3/28/13) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team is preparing for three matches in Louisiana over the weekend. The Red Wolves are 4-5 on the season and currently riding a two-match winning streak.

The Red Wolves were only originally scheduled to play two matches this weekend, but have added a third match. In addition to the matches against Louisiana-Lafayette (11-8) on March 29 at 2 p.m. and McNeese State (9-7) on March 31 at noon, ASU has added a match against Nicholls State (8-8) on March 30 that will begin at noon.

Arkansas State and ULL have met 22 times since the 1987 season with ASU holding a 6-16 record against the Ragin’ Cajuns. The Red Wolves have met Nicholls State just four times since 1987 and hold a 2-2 record against the Colonels. A-State has experienced success in its series with McNeese State by holding a 7-1 record over the Cowgirls and a current four-match winning streak.

A-State has won two games in a row over Missouri Valley Conference members Evansville and Southern Illinois. The Red Wolves defeated the Purple Aces on March 9 by a 6-1 score and didn’t lose a set in singles play. A-State defeated the Salukis of Southern Illinois on March 24, 4-3, in a match that came down to the wire on a cold and windy day in Jonesboro. Junior Biljana Miloshevska was able to secure the game-winning point for the Red Wolves by winning her match 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.

Sophomore Jess Heeps-Eriksen currently has a three-match winning streak in singles play, while Ioana Teu, Tamara Slijepcevic, and Miloshevska have won two consecutive matches. Slijepcevic and Miloshevska currently have the best singles records for the Red Wolves at 6-3, while the doubles pair of Teu and Janie Nowland has a 4-4 record for the top mark on the team.

At the conclusion of the road swing, A-State will have three more road contests to begin April, before hosting Louisiana-Monroe in its final home match of the season April 13.
