JONESBORO, Ark. (1/29/13) — Arkansas State Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir announced Tuesday that Travis Thornberry has been named Assistant Director of Compliance, filling a newly-created position with the Red Wolves’ Athletics Department.
Thornberry served as A-State’s Compliance Coordinator since June of 2012, also acting as Interim Compliance Director the last four months, before being elevated into his new role. Acting in his interim capacity, Thornberry oversaw the day-to-day operations of the compliance department for all of ASU’s 16 NCAA sports.
During his time at Arkansas State, Thornberry has not only worked with ASU’s compliance rules, but also gained experience with NCAA and Sun Belt Conference regulations.
“Travis has done a tremendous job in our compliance department and proved himself as a valuable member of our staff, so we’re excited to retain him in an expanded role,” said Mohajir. “Travis welcomed his added responsibilities while serving as our Interim Compliance Director, and his hands-on experience in our compliance area will certainly strengthen our department.
“This is a newly-created position, and I really appreciate the support of (ASU Chancellor) Dr. (Tim) Hudson and our university administration in enhancing our compliance department,” continued Mohajir.
Thornberry came to Arkansas State after working as Compliance Coordinator at Wofford (S.C.) College from August of 2011 through May of 2012. Additionally, he served as an intern in the Arkansas-Little Rock Compliance Department from May through August of 2011.
“I’m excited about continuing my compliance career at Arkansas State,” said Thornberry. “This is an outstanding University located in a great community and the athletics department is on the verge of greatness, so I’m glad to be a part of that.”
The Traskwood, Ark. native earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from UALR in 2009 and 2011, respectively. Thornberry is married to the former Nickel Bivens of Benton, Ark.
