With the new names and old names and new jobs to familiar faces and retreading and refurbing and rehabbing that is the “Coach Search Season” component of college football, we know a few facts tonight. We know Bobby Petrino will not be the next coach at Arkansas State University.
The story we heard from well-placed sources is that Petrino met with high-ranking folks at ASU on Sunday, and the result of that meeting was no offer from the school.
He immediately contacted Western Kentucky University, and today he is again a head football coach.
Two others believed to be on the ASU short list – Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monken (now at Southern Miss) and Texas Tech offensive coordinator Neal Brown (now Kentucky offensive coordinator) – also accepted new jobs today.
ASU is expected to name a coach this week. Believed to be in the mix is Florida State University associate head coach Eddie Gran, whose wife is from Elaine, Ark.
