MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team finalized a three-game Great American Conference series sweep over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Sunday at home with a 13-3 seven-inning win.

The Boll Weevils (25-14, 14-10 GAC) scored in every inning except for third. After Southeastern (17-16, 10-11 GAC) scored one run in the top of the first, UAM answered with four runs in the bottom of the half of the inning, highlighted by a two-run triple to left center from junior Stephen Martinez with two outs. Earlier in the inning, UAM took advantage of a Southeastern fielding error to score its first two runs.

Each team added one run in the second inning. Southeastern’s Aaron Chalk hit an RBI single in the top of the inning to cut the UAM lead to 4-2. In the bottom half of the frame, junior D’Marco Poindexter scored on an RBI fielder’s choice hit by senior Hunter Allday.

UAM scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single from junior Chad Miller and a sac fly from senior T.J. Cox.

The Savage Storm scored its final run in the top of the sixth on a solo homerun from Evan Ramsey.

UAM rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by back-to-back two-run hits from Miller and Poindexter. Earlier in the inning, senior Danny Loya started the rally with an RBI sac fly to score Allday, who reached on a single.

The five-run sixth inning rally gave UAM enough runs to capture its third run-rule victory in conference games this season.

Senior starter Chris Guzman (2-1) allowed three runs off seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks in the first six innings of the game to earn the win. Junior Kade Garlington closed the door on the Savage Storm, allowing just one base runner on a walk in the final inning. Eddie Cervantes (4-3) took the loss for Southeastern, allowing five runs (two earned) off three hits with three strikeouts and two walks in the first inning, plus one batter in the second.

The Weevils head to Arkadelphia this Wednesday, April 10 to face Ouachita Baptist for a single non-conference game starting at 2 p.m.
