Lions’ Late Charge Secures Runner-Up Finish for UAFS Golf Team

Freshman Tyler Reynolds fired a 1-over par 73 for the second day in a row to spark the UAFS men’s golf team to a runner-up finish on Tuesday in the Crawford Wade Invitational at Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, Texas.

UAFS, which was in third place after Monday’s first rounds, shot a 14-over 302 during the second round to move into second place. The Lions finished the two-round, two-day event shooting a 24-over 600 (298-302).

The Lions finished 11 strokes behind champion and fellow Heartland Conference member St. Mary’s University. The Rattlers shot a 13-over 589 (288-301).

Reynolds finished fourth overall to lead the five-player Lions contingent and earned All-Tournament Team honors. Sophomore Dylan Lovell, who fired a 3-under 69 in the first round, shot an overall 7-over 151 (69-82) and finished tied for 13th. Senior Patrick Willey shot a 9-over 153 (75-78) and finished tied for 22nd. Senior Josh Buchanan shot an 11-over 155 (81-74) and finished tied for 28th, and sophomore Josh Tomlinson shot a 22-over 166 (89-77) and finished tied for 71st.

St.Mary’s Matthew Van Winkle earned medalist honors with a 2-under 142 (68-74).
