Philander Smith Win Two

Philander Smith BasketballToday, both Panther basketball teams demolished their competition, each taking home a win versus the Pioneers of CrowleysRidge College in non-conference play.

The Lady Panthers pummeled Crowley’s Ridge College, 94-67, in an intense defensive battle. Four of the Lady Panthers scored double-digits with Caryan Jones leading the pack with 21 points, 5 steals, and 2 assists. Kiera Scott was close behind, registering a double-double (17 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals), and Jerricka Scott (15 points, 5 steals, 1 assist) and Kanesha Merritt (14 points, 3 steals, 3 assists) added to the offensive pot.
Treka Freer led the Lady Pioneers with 21 points.
Apparently, the Panthers did not want the girl’s team to have all of the fun as they put on an equally exciting showing versus the Pioneers, defeating them 108-80. Five of the Panthers produced double-digit offensive scores.
Clayton Busby led all players with 30 points and 3 steals, while Alvin Nance (18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 assist), Andre Clark (14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 blocks), Juvon Demerson (14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks), and Damarkus Lipscomb (10 points, 8 assists, 3 steals) each added to the offensive cause.
Tim Sheperd led the Pioneers with 18 points.
The Lady Panthers will return to the court on December 29th in Conway, AR when they take on the Lady Bears of the University of Central Arkansas. The Panthers are off until January 5th, PSC’s first conference match versus Southern University of New Orleans. The games will take place in Mims Gymnasium with the women’s tip-off set for 2pm and the men at 4pm.
