HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (3/26/13) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team shot a final-round 303, its best score this spring, to close out play Tuesday at the UALR Women’s Golf Classic, where the Red Wolves finished tied for 11th with a combined 969.
The Red Wolves turned in a first-round 328 Monday before starting the second round that was suspended due to darkness. They came back this morning to complete the second 18 holes with a 338, prior to posting their best round of the tournament at the Diamante Country Club.
A-State finished tied with UTEP and five strokes behind ninth place South Alabama and UMKC. Sam Houston State led the 15-team field with a 937, while Middle Tennessee finished second with a 938 and Oral Roberts third with a 947.
The Red Wolves were led by Anna Carling and Courtney Manning, who both shot a 240 to finished tied for 23rd place. Manning recorded a final-round 75 that was the lowest score of the tournament by an ASU player.
Also competing for A-State, Marie Couffignal finished tied for 42nd place with a 246 and Jennifer Loiacano tied for 59th with a 253. ASU’s leader in scoring average entering the tournament, Abi Laker, withdrew in the final round.
A-State will return to action April 15-17 at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
