Yellow Jackets Down Hendrix College Warriors

LONGVIEW, Texas – The Hendrix College Warriors women’s basketball team suffered a 64-44 road loss to LeTourneau University at Solheim Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors (0-11) turned the ball over 24 times and shot just 30 percent (17-of-57) from the field, while the YellowJackets (5-6) shot 34 percent (24-of-71) and had 13 steals.

LeTourneau led 29-17 at halftime. Hendrix fought to cut the deficit to 41-36 with 10:45 left in the game, but the Jackets outscored the Warriors 23-8 the rest of the game.

Hendrix College also struggled from long range, going 1-of-15 from three-point territory. They also went 9-of-14 at the free throw line. LeTourneau went 6-of-23 from outside and 10-of-16 at the stripe. The YellowJackets also had a 54-40 rebounding advantage.

Junior center Jame Tate led Hendrix with 16 points and 13 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the year. With her effort, Tate moved into second place on the Warrior career rebounding list with 712, just 41 behind Christina Byler’s (2007-11) record of 753. Junior guard Tiffany Hubbard scored 12 points and freshman guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler dished out six assists. Junior forward Katie Coughran grabbed seven rebounds off the bench.

Ashley Fajardo and Jessica Manas each had 15 points to lead the YellowJackets. Ashley Stephens had eight points, 12 boards and two blocks.

Hendrix will return to Southern Athletic Association action on Friday when they take on Oglethorpe in Atlanta.
