Walnut Ridge, Ark. – “Punxsutawney Phil” is not the only way to predict when spring is on the horizon. One way people see spring coming is by the start of baseball season. The Eagles of Williams Baptist College will hit the diamond for the first time on Tuesday, February 5. Williams will host Evangel University in a doubleheader at Shell Field beginning at noon.

Head Coach Frank Lee will be entering his second season as the head Eagle. He has assembled a deep roster with players from five different states. “I feel as though our pitching will be a strong area for our squad this season. We also have a lot of experience on our infield,” said Lee. The team returns five starters from its infield last season.

The Eagles will rely on their three seniors to show leadership on and off the field. Ethan Clark, Chris Richardson and Tyler Williams are also the captains of the team. “We believe our leadership and experience will help us improve on last season’s performance,” added Lee.

Williams has set several goals for the season, but it starts with making the conference tournament. “Our main goal is to win the conference,” said Lee. “But first, we need to make the conference tournament. Then, after that it is a brand new season and anything can happen from there.”

Lee summed up his team and coaching staff, noting, “This team is of high character and I feel blessed to be leading them into the season alongside the others on the coaching staff. Great things are taking place within this team and it makes it fun to be around them day in and day out.”
