Lorman, MS- In SWAC basketball action this evening the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions traveled to the reservation of Alcorn State to battle the Lady Braves.
The Lady Lions got off to slow start, as it took almost ten minutes before their offense got going. Chigozianyi Okwumbua got the first two points of the game before she had to sit the majority of the first half with foul trouble. The Lady Lions were able to take a six point lead into the intermission.
UAPB was able to come out in the second half and hold off a late charge by the Lady Braves down the stretch. The Lady Lions were able to out rebound the Lady Braves 37-32, as they came away with sixth victory of the season 50-41.
Christina Lasane led the way for the Lady Lions with 13 points, shooting 50 percent from the field and connecting on five-of-eight free throws. Cassidy Wright and Chigozianyi Okwumbua both had 12 points apiece, while Marion Thompson grabbed 11 rebounds.
Tierra Frost, of Alcorn State, led all scorers with 20 points, and Carolinsia Crumbly had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Lions return home on January 19th to face the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
