Bears Track and Field Team Competes at SIU Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. _ Corentin Louis paced the University of Central Arkansas men with a first-place finish in the 3,000 meter run on Saturday at the SIU Invitational. Jasmine Ellis turned in a third-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles to lead the UCA women.

Louis ran an 8:34.61 to win the 3,000 meters, and also turned in a second-place finish in the mile run in a time of 4:20.05, just missing out on a double. SIU’s Lucas Cherry edged Louis in a time of 4:20.03. UCA’s James Leonard took fourth in the event (4:21.71), while Amos Gerber was eighth (4:26.91).

Chance Tanner was second in the 400 meters in a time of 49.83 and fourth in the 200 (22.68), while Leonard was fifth in the 800 meters (1:57.62). Elvis Steward finished third in the long jump (23-0) and fourth in the triple jump (44-5.25). Daniel Reese was third in the pole vault (15-1) and Benjamin Jordan was sixth (13-7.25). Tray Carter fnished fourth in the long jump (22-10.5).

On the women’s side, Ellis jumped 18-5 for third place in the long jump, with Alex Dorch placing sixth (18-3). April Martin finished fourth in the triple jump (37-1) and Dorch was fourth (36-4.25). Ellis also finished tied for sixth in the high jump (5-0.25) with teammate Megan Snow, while Maya Minter was 10th (5-0.25).

In the 60 meters, Tanesha Maxwell was sixth (7.9), while Jean Black followed Ellis in fourth place in the 60 meter hurdles (9.16). Khadijah Smith finished fifth in the 400 meters (59.07) and fifth in the 200 meters (25.39), and Jordan Chadwick was 10th in the 800 meters (2:22.53). Maxwell added a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters (25.55).

Erika Setzler was ninth in the 3,000 meters (10:40.18).

Both squads will be in action this weekend at the Iowa Classic at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.
