Henderson State Inks 60 on National Signing Day

Henderson State NSD

The first day of National Signing Day brought 60 additions to the Henderson State football program.

The two-time defending Great American Conference champions inked 34 defensive players, 24 offensive players and a pair of kickers.

Henderson State graduated four players from an offensive line that helped the Reddies lead the nation in scoring and total offense in 2013.

“We had four seniors on the offensive line and had some big shoes to fill,” said Head Coach Scott Maxfield. “We wanted to bring in eight to 10 high schools linemen to try and grow those guys, which is important on the offensive line. We wanted to have guys come in and learn the system and also allow them more time to get adjusted to the college game. I feel that we restocked that position with some bigger players.”

Also an area of concentration was at the linebacker position. The past two years, the GAC Defensive Player of the Year was a Henderson State linebacker.

“We brought in several linebackers and I feel that we did a great job signing some very talented players will have an immediate impact, Maxfield said.”

Thus far, Henderson State has signed 30 players Texas, 12 from Arkansas and seven from Louisiana. The Remaining signees are from Florida, California, and Tennessee.
