Head Football Coach Scott Maxfield and his staff has assembled an impressive list of student-athletes that have signed National Letters of Intent to play at Henderson State this upcoming fall.
A large contingent from the state of Arkansas have elected to stay in-state and play at Henderson including Nashville’s Leonard Snell and Rivercrest’s Cecil Langston.
Snell led the Scrappers to the 2015 Class 4A State Championship earning MVP honors rushing for 230 yards and scoring six touchdowns. An all-conference and all-state selection, Snell compiled more than 5,000 yards of offense and scored 46 touchdowns last season.
Langston was named the 2015 Arkansas Class 3A Offensive Player of the Year. A first-team All-State selection, Langston set the state record for yards rushing in a single season with 3,211 along with 40 touchdowns his senior season. The 5-8, 185-pound running back rushed for 300 yards or more five times in 2015 including 437 yards along with scoring 8 touchdowns in a playoff game. A Landers Award Finalist, Langston led the Colts to the Class 3A State Championship game. He finished his career with 6,255 yards and 75 touchdowns.
Tonda Bullock was a two year letter winner at Joe T. Robinson High School. The strong safety totaled 65 tackles, three interceptions, and a forced fumble for the Senators in his senior season. A two-time All-Conference selection, Bullock helped lead his team to a 9-2 record.
Also from the state champion Nashville Scrappers is linebacker Terell Grundy. Grundy lettered three seasons and helped lead the 2015 Scappers to a 15-0 record.
Springdale Har-Ber’s Fuller Chandler accumulated 2012 passing yards and 28 touchdowns this past season. The 6-1, 220-pound quarterback led his team to an 11-2 record and a conference championship with the team finishing as State Runners-Up. A Landers Award Finalist, Chandler was a Second-Team All-Arkansas Preps selection.
Tight end Ethan Simpson earned all-conference and All-Garland County honors his senior season at Fountain Lake High School. Simpson is the grandson of legendary Henderson Coach Duke Wells and his uncle John Wells played and coached at Henderson. Simpson also lettered in basketball and is member of the National Honor Society.
Prescott High School teammates Trevor Pipkin and Brandon Walker will also bring their talents to Henderson.
Pipkin threw for 4,218 yards and 46 touchdowns his senior year. A Lander’s Finalist, he earned All-Conference and All-State honors setting school records for passing yards and touchdowns in a single season. The 6-0, 175-pound product helped lead the Curley Wolves to back-to-back district championships and an appearance in the state semifinals. He finished his career with 7,673 yards passing and 92 touchdowns.
Walker totaled 1,277 yards receiving on 83 receptions and scored 14 touchdowns in 2015. Walker earned All-District, All-Area and All-State honors.
Also signing were a pair from Arkadelphia High School including Jeff Blake and Bailey Goza.
Blake lettered three years and was an All-Conference performer at the quarterback position where he helped lead Arkadelphia to a State Semi-Final appearance.
Goza is a two-time letter winner who earned all-conference at cornerback. The 6-2, 170-pound product recorded 45 total tackles, 7 tackles for lost yardage and had two interceptions his senior season for the Badgers.
In additions to those Arkansas products, several from the state of Texas elected to bring their talents to Henderson.
Linebacker Robert Thomas of Cedar Hill (Texas) High School was a first-team all-district linebacker. Thomas is the son of former Reddie All-American Robert Thomas who went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys and was a blocking back for Emmitt Smith.
Reece Shaw is a decorated athlete from Southwest Christian School in Fort Worth, Texas. The 6-4, 190-pound quarterback earned all-conference and All-North Texas honors after throwing for 3127 yards and 32 touchdowns his last fall. Reece also rushed for 1049 yards and seven scores.
Ja’Quavian Dabbs caught 49 passes for 842 yards and nine touchdowns in his senior season at Marshall High School in Texas. The 6-0, 193 product led his team to an 11-2 record and a district championship. Dabbs finished his career second all-time in career receiving yards at Marshall.
Linebacker Michael McCaskill is a Second-Team All-State linebacker from Cedar Park High School. McCaskill led his team to a 16-0 record and a 2015 State Championship. He totaled 130 tackles with 15 sacks to earn First-Team All-CenTex, and was the UIL State Defensive MVP.
Henderson has won four conference championships in the last six years including three of the last four Great American Conference titles. Since 2010, the Reddies have compiled the best record among all football playing institutions in the state of Arkansas with a 54-14 record.
