UAM Boll Weevils Sign Record Number of Recruits

MONTICELLO — University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils football coach Hud Jackson has announced a total of 58 newcomers for the Boll Weevils, including a record 41 high school seniors.

The total number of commitments includes 41 high school seniors and 17 mid-year transfers. It nearly doubles the number of high school signees on this day from years past during Jackson’s tenure at UAM, which is entering its sixth season.

“We talked with a lot of really good players during our recruiting period this year, and felt like we needed to find a way to make it work to get as many of them in a UAM uniform as possible,” said Jackson on a larger signing class than years past. “Our coaches did a great job when we got them on campus, and we really feel like we have some very talented high school players.”

The high school senior signing class includes 24 from Arkansas, 11 from Louisiana, three from Mississippi, two from Texas and one from Oklahoma. The junior college breakdown includes nine from Mississippi schools, four from Kansas, three from Texas and one from Arizona.

“The best thing about this class is that they are all very excited about being Weevils,” said Jackson about his 41 high school signees. “We are looking forward to getting them on campus and becoming a part of our program.”

“Our mid-year guys have really hit the ground running and are working hard for us,” said Jackson. “They will help to fill some holes immediately and are fitting in with the rest of the team well. They all understand the sense of urgency that an offseason brings.”
