The Henderson State tennis team picked up its first win of the season as the Lady Reddies defeated the University of the Ozarks, Sunday in Clarksville, Ark.  The Lady Reddies, 1-1 on the season, swept the doubles matches to begin the day and went on to win four of the six singles matches. Sarah Camras and Brittany Harness easily defeated Whitney Lewis and Elly Eibes 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Jenny Cecotti and Tyler Reaves broke service late to beat Chelsea Glasscock and Tara Richards by a score of 9-7. It took an extra set for Emily Eggleston and Monica Woodward to beat Mollie Wilkinson and Kallie Simpson as the Henderson duo won 9-8 (7-3). In singles play, Henderson was dominant in the first four matches as Camras cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Eibes at No. 1 singles, while Cecotti clinched the match for the Lady Reddies with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lewis at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Harness shutout Glasscock 6-0, 6-0, with Reaves beating Richards 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 at No. 4 singles. The Lady Reddies opened the 2013 season on Saturday losing to Arkansas-Pine Bluff 5-4. Henderson State pushed the Division I Lions to the limit but fell short as Monica Arcos wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Harness at No. 3 singles.

“I was so proud of the way we played,” said Coach Brenda Joiner. “UAPB is a veteran team that beat us 9-0 a year ago. We challenged them and I think the results will be different when we play them in April.”  UAPB won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 advantage entering singles play. Henderson State won at No. 1 doubles as Cecotti and Reaves defeated Britney Boler and Khadijah Kenyatte 8-1, but UAPB rebounded to win the remaining doubles matches. The Lady Reddies put together a valiant effort in singles play, winning three of the six matches.

Camras defeated Maria Cabane (UAPB) at No. 1 singles, while Cecotti beat Kenyatte at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-1. At No. 6 singles, Eggleston recorded the final victory for Henderson by easily beating Britney Boler 6-0, 6-0.  “I thought we played very well for our first matches of the season,” said Joiner. “This team is young, but they really played hard and I saw a lot of positives in the two matches this weekend.” The Lady Reddies will next be in action on Saturday, February 9, when they travel to Tyler Texas to face the University of Texas-Tyler and Tyler Junior College.
