On Christmas Eve, two of Philander’s own were selected as the GCAC Players of the Week, Caryan Jones and Clayton “CJ” Busby.
Caryan Jones, a sophomore point guard from Star City, AR, received the GCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor following a stellar performace early last week. Jones led all scorers in the home match versus Crowleys Ridge College, scoring 21 points coupled with five steals and two assists. Jones has proven to be a true leader as she continually does the little things that are not evident in the statistical computations.
Clayton Busby, this week’s GCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, is a senior guard from Beaumont, TX. This is the second time Busby has received this honor. Busby was selected after a 30-point performance versus Crowleys Ridge. His offensive presence has helped the Panthers to a 9-4 start.
The Lady Panthers return to the hardwood this Saturday, December 29th when they travel to Conway, AR to take on the Lady Bears of the University of Central Arkansas. On January 5th, both teams begin conference play when they host Southern University of New Orleans. Tipoff is set for 3pm (women) and 5pm (men).
