Lady Lions Drop Road Loss To Lady Tigers

Grambling, LA- In SWAC action this afternoon, the Lady Lions of the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff traveled to the campus of Grambling State University to battle the Lady Tigers at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. Grambling State notched its’ fourth victory of the season, 67-62. 

The Lady Lions sputtered out of the gate, as the Lady Tigers jumped out to a six point lead, 7-1, a little under three minutes into the ballgame. Grambling State would stretch the lead to as much as ten with 9:55 left in the first half, before UAPB would go on a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the contest.

The lead would change hands once more as GSU took a one point lead at the 3:15 mark, UAPB would regain the lead on their very next possession as Lakendra Marsh drained a three pointer with 2:53 left before halftime. The Lady Lions would take a two point lead, 37-35, into the locker room for the intermission. 

In the second half the, the lead would change hands three times before the Lady Tigers would take control of the ballgame, 58-57, on a three by Kamiya Burwell with 4:22 left in regulation. The Lady Tigers would hold off UAPB down stretch to close out the ballgame for tonight’s final. 

Lakendra Marsh would be the high point player for the Lady Lions tonight with 17 points, on five-of-eight shooting. All of Marsh’s baskets would come from behind the three point arch and she also was two for two from the free throw line.

The Lady Lions would have three other players in double figures tonight as Cassidy Wright contributed 12 points, while Chigozianyi Okwumbua put up 11 points and Jenise Gentry had 10, respectively.

For the Lady Tigers Joanna Miller would lead all scorers in tonight’s contest with 20 points; while Cierra Ceazer chipped in 15 points and Jessica Watkins scored 10. Victoya Ricks controlled the boards all night for the lady tigers grabbing 16 rebounds, nine coming on the defensive end.

UAPB would win the turnover battle 11-18, but came up short on rebounds as Grambling would dominate 41-25.

Up next for the Lady Lions, is a Monday night road game against the Lady Tigers of Jackson State University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 PM.
