Reddies Begin New Year with a 93-82 Win Over SNU

After a 17 day break, the Henderson State Reddies returned to the court and began 2013 with an impressive 93-82 win over Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla.

Five Reddies scored in double-figures with Andrew Ensley leading the way with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Jonathan Fitzgerald added 15 points and 7 rebounds while Cory Henshall totaled 13 points and grabbed 8 boards.

Also scoring in double figures were Denzel Lyles with 13 points and Joe McCoy with 12.

The Reddies, 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the Great American Conference, forced the Crimson Storm to commit 18 turnovers with Henderson scoring 24 points off the miscues.

Henderson State connected on 31-of-68 shots from the field for 46 percent. The Reddies, however, struggled from outside the 3-point arc converting on just a 2-of-10 shots.

Free throw shooting was a key to Henderson’s win as the Reddies were 29-for-36 from the line including 21-for-26 in the second half. The Crimson Storm struggled from the free-throw line converting on just 13-of-23 shots.

Southern Nazarene, 7-5 overall and 2-4 in the GAC, was limited to 41 percent shooting making 30-of-74 shots. The Crimson Storm made nine 3-point field goals to keep them within striking distance.

Ryan Aaron led SNU with 24 points, while Brady Burford added 19.

The Reddies will return to the Duke Wells Center on Thursday, January 10th as they will play host to Harding University. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
