NEW ORLEANS – Finishing the regular season on a high-note, freshman Valeriya Teplova was named Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday (Feb. 6).

Teplova, from Mariupol, Ukraine, continued a great 2013 this past weekend at Vanderbilt with a pair of wins and a third-place finish. She touched the wall first in the 50 free with a time of 24.68, nearly a second faster than her nearest opponent. She also swam a 23.97 split in the 200 free relay, helping UALR capture the event win. The freshman is one of only two swimmers with a relay split under 25 seconds.

Teplova also helped the 400 medley relay finish third. Swimming anchor, she swam the 100 free in 53.14.

Teplova became the second UALR swimmer this season to earn Swimmer of the week honors as teammate Amber Kelly won on Oct. 31.
