UAM Loses To Southwestern Oklahoma St

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State recorded 587 yards of total offense and outscored the University of Arkansas at Monticello football team 21-3 in the second half to record a 35-17 win over the Weevils on Saturday night at Fast Lane Field.

At the halftime break, UAM (2-2, 2-2 Great American Conference) and SWOSU (3-1, 3-1 GAC) were tied at 14-all. SWOSU opened the scoring on a 32-yard quarterback keeper by Dustin Stenta to cap a nine-play, 94-yard drive with 8:06 remaining in the first quarter.

UAM tied the score at seven with 2:18 remaining in the opening quarter on atwo-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Cody Trimble to senior Jamal Nixon to cap an eight-play, 66-yard drive.

Trimble connected with junior Skyler Scott on a post pattern for a 46-yard touchdown catch and run at the 10-minute mark of the second half. That capped just a three-play, 44-second drive that was set up by a punt from SWOSU inside its own five-yard line.

SWOSU capped the first half scoring on a seven-yard touchdown run by Ryan Corbin out of the wildcat formation with 5:22 remaining in the half. That capped a 15-play, four minute 38 second drive that was aided by a roughing the passer penalty against UAM on a no-gain play with a third-and-14 situation.

The third quarter had only one score, a screen pass from Stenta to TeverickBoyd, who ran 70 yards for a touchdown. That put SWOSU up 21-14 with 3:56 left in the third period.

UAM scored its only points of the second half on a 38-yard field goal from freshman Jamie McGee to cap a 10-play, 51-yard drive to trim SWOSU’s lead to four points with 14:50 remaining in regulation.

The Bulldogs cushioned their lead on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Stenta to Brian Robinson at the 11-minute mark of the fourth quarter, and finalized the scoring on another wildcat touchdown run from Corbin with 4:39 remaining inregulation.

SWOSU outgained UAM 233-25 in the fourth quarter to keep the Weevils from making a comeback.

Trimble finished the game 17-of-25 through the air for 140 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Sophomore Colton Morrison was 10-of-20 for 86 yards. Skyler Scott turned in his second triple digit game of the season with nine receptions for 142 yards, including his 47-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Junior Rod Smith carried 18 times for a season-high 81 yards, averaging 4.5yards per rush.

Defensively, junior Keith Reynolds turned in his second double-digit game of the season with a total of 10 tackles in the loss. Louis Curry added eight, and junior Alex Black had seven.

The Weevils are back in action next Saturday, October 5 at home against Arkansas Tech. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Convoy Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium.
