JONESBORO, Ark. (2/11/13) – Arkansas State senior Logan Uxa and junior Dustin Jones have been named to the preseason All-Sun Belt Conference baseball team, the league office announced Monday.
Uxa was named to the team as an outfielder, while Jones was named as a shortstop. Troy’s Logan Pierce was named Preseason Player of the Year, while Arkansas-Little Rock’s Chance Cleveland was named Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
A-State was picked to finish fifth in the SBC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, while Florida Atlantic was tabbed as the conference favorite heading into the season.
Uxa, a 6-4, 220-pound left-handed hitter, led the Red Wolves with 10 home runs a year ago and drove in a team-high 44 runs. His .477 slugging percentage and .434 on-base percentage were each the second highest on the team, and he led the Red Wolves with 48 runs scored. Uxa started all 57 games a year ago and hit .289, the third highest average on the team. He notched 14 multiple-hit games on the season, including one four-hit performance and five three-hit games. Uxa also reached base in 27 straight games last season and drove in at least two runs in 11 games.
Jones, a 5-10, 150-pound right-hander, earned his second All-SBC honor after earning All-Sun Belt second-team honors as a shortstop following the 2012 season. He had a .279 batting average last season including 50 hits, 25 runs scored and seven doubles. He had a 10-game hitting and started 55 games at shortstop. In the field, he had a .966 fielding percentage and committed just eight errors on the year.
The 2013 A-State baseball season will get underway Friday, Feb. 15, when the Red Wolves host Bradley at 6 p.m. at Tomlinson Stadium/Kell Field. Baseball season tickets remain on sale with prices starting at $65. For more information contact the ASU box office at (870) 972-2781.
